Feds give workers a new tool to help sue you
A simple way for your employees to track the hours they work and ensure the number on their paycheck is exactly what it should be … yep, there’s an app for that.
The tool is the Department of Labor’s (DOL) latest weapon in its efforts to ramp-up wage-and-hour compliance.
It’s a smartphone app that lets employees track the hours they worked and calculate the exact amount they should see on their next paycheck .
Here’s what a DOL press release says about the app: “Users conveniently can track regular work hours, break time and any overtime hours for one or more employees. This new technology is significant because, instead of relying on their employers’ records, workers now can keep their own records.”
The DOL goes on to state the obvious: “This information could prove invaluable during a Wage and Hour Division investigation when an employer has failed to maintain accurate employment records.”
Currently, the app only works on the iPhone and iPod Touch. But the DOL says its working on other software aimed at other types of smartphones.
