Boss vows to ‘demoralize’ staff in weight-loss competition
It’s not uncommon for upper management to take an active role in a company’s wellness program — especially if the program includes a competitive element. But this company’s founder may have taken the competition part a bit too seriously.
Bill Nguyen, the entrepreneur behind a number of start-up companies, was convinced his staff ate too much fast food, so he rolled of a version of The Biggest Loser competition for his employees
Nguyen was quoted as saying: “I’m going to crush them (his employees, in the contest) … I have a strategy to lose weight really, really fast, at a pace they can’t keep up with. Then they’ll be demoralized. I don’t care if I have to go to the hospital, I’m going to beat all of them …” Nguyen said he’d consume only rice cakes and beef jerky the week before the final weigh-in.
This strategy seems a bit excessive – especially when you consider Nguyen is a 5’7” man weighing in at a svelte 135 pounds.
