New Hampshire Holds Tax Interest Rates Steady for 2027
Companies that owe taxes in New Hampshire will see the same interest rates next year.
For all of 2027, the Department of Revenue Administration (DRA) will charge 9% annual interest on tax underpayments and pay 6% annual interest on qualifying tax overpayments. Those are the same rates companies saw in 2026, and one percentage point lower than in 2025, when they were 10% and 7%.
So how does the state land on those numbers? It starts with the federal underpayment rate effective Sept. 1 of the preceding year. New Hampshire adds two percentage points to set its underpayment rate, then subtracts three percentage points from that state rate to set its overpayment rate. For 2027, New Hampshire used the 7% federal rate in effect on Sept. 1, 2026.
The rates cover taxes the DRA handles, including the Business Profits Tax and Business Enterprise Tax. Questions can go to DRA Taxpayer Services at (603) 230-5920.
