4 statements that cause employees to hate their boss

True, employees don’t have to love their manager for things to run smoothly. But when workers absolutely detest their superiors it can cause a number of problems. 

Loaded phrases to watch for

If you hear any finance managers saying these things to staffers, you’ll want to have a talk with them – and fast.

‘I won’t have you on [Insert random entertaining website] while you’re on the clock.’ Unless your company wants your valued employees to feel like they’re working at a factory in a Third-world country, this is the wrong approach.

Today’s employees like to recharge every now and then with quick breaks online.

‘I need you to drop everything and do this now!’ Sure, emergencies happen. But most times it doesn’t have to be so dramatic. Good managers would only ever ask their staffers to ‘drop everything’ in bona fide crisis situations, and in a more tactful manner.

‘Don’t bring me problems. Bring me solutions.’ Part of being a manager is “managing” different problems. This includes offering employees guidance and talking them through different problems. This statement sends the message to workers that their manager doesn’t want to hear – and won’t listen to – any complaints.

‘In times like these, you’re lucky to have a job.’ When employees hear statements like this from their supervisor, they work in fear, which kills morale and engagement.
