Democrat-backed bill could change key Obamacare rule
A movement to return to the 40-hour workweek standard for full-time employment under the Affordable Care Act is growing – thanks to some support from an unlikely source.
The House Ways and Means Committee approved H.R. 2575, a bill that would change the definition of full-time employees to 40 hours per week for healthcare reform calculation purposes.
The health reform law requires employers with 50 or more FTEs to offer affordable coverage that meets the minimum value levels to any full-time employees who work an average of 30 hours per week – or pay a penalty (when the penalty phase actually kicks in).
And unlike many health-reform-related bills, this one has the backing of several House Democrats, including Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL), Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT), Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR).
