It seems that an increase in job duties and responsibilities doesn’t automatically guarantee a nice bump in pay any longer.
More than one-fifth (21%) of managers said it’s at least “somewhat common” for their company to give promotions without an increase in pay. That’s according to a recent OfficeTeam survey.
Here’s the specific breakdown on how managers answered the question, “How common is it for your company to award promotions without salary increases?”:
- Not common at all (63%)
- Somewhat common (19%)
- We do not offer promotions without raises (14%)
- Very common (3%), and
- Don’t know/no answer (1%).
What’s more surprising, however, is how employees answered the question: “Would you be willing to accept a promotion from your company that didn’t include a raise?”
A full 55% of workers said they’d take a promotion without a bump in pay.
