GOP set to rewrite healthcare reform law
House Republicans have announced their intention to draft their own version of a new healthcare bill. Can they succeed — and will it affect your company?
The GOP announcement came shortly after voting on a bill to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
House Republicans say they plan to create a series of “discrete bills” that would achieve some of the same goals as the PPACA – while also limiting federal power in many areas.
Some of the objectives of this new legislation include:
- Lowering premiums through increased competition and choice
- Creating access to affordable coverage for people with pre-existing conditions
- Increasing the number of Americans with health insurance, and
- Giving states “greater flexibility” to run their Medicaid programs.
Although the House voted for a bill to repeal the PPACA, it is highly unlikely the GOP will get the votes necessary to get it passed in the Senate.
