Latest security threat to work-issued mobile devices
If you don’t have a policy prohibiting employees from downloading apps on their company-issued mobile devices, you’ll want to draft one up ASAP.
Reason: Security is a problem with more than half of these apps.
In fact, according to a recent report from the Internet security firm Veracode, 57% of mobile applications failed to meet the acceptable levels of security. And more than half of finance-related apps failed their first security analysis, as well.
These figures are based on a sample of around 2,900 mobile apps over an 18-month period.
What’s worse, it takes an average of 18 days for comprised mobile device to be fixed. That in itself is enough of a reason place some limits on what your employees can and can’t download on their work-issued devices.
Best bet: Ban employees from downloading any apps without getting the go ahead from IT, and warn them to watch out for third-party codes.
