Now’s a great time to be working in finance and accounting
Though the condition of the economy in 2013 is uncertain, accounting and finance employees can be assured of one thing:
They shouldn’t have trouble finding work.
Despite high U.S. unemployment, college-educated workers with the specialized skills needed to succeed in accounting and finance are experiencing low unemployment, according to executive staffing firm Robert Half’s 2013 Salary Guide for Accounting and Finance.
In addition, starting salaries for Accounting and Finance employees is expected to rise in 2013 between 2.7% and 4.5%, compared with previous year’s salaries.
Positions in demand
The salary guide also points out eight positions that are highly sought after. There are some positions that require some IT background (business systems analyst and IT auditor), as IT upgrades are becoming more and more frequent.
Still, traditional accountants, financial analysts, compliance officers and controllers are still being sought after by businesses.The positions in demand include:
- Financial analysts
- Business systems analysts
- Accountants
- Compliance officers
- Auditors
- IT auditors
- Cost accountants, and
- Controllers.
