Nearly $733K Wage Liability: Florida Restaurant Agrees to Pay 31 Workers
A Florida restaurant faces nearly $733,000 in back wages after the Department of Labor (DOL) found it failed to properly pay 31 workers.
The case shows how payroll practices can turn into significant financial liability when they don’t comply with federal wage rules.
According to the DOL, Lucky King LLC – a seafood restaurant operating as Miyako Japanese Buffet – paid most of its employees a monthly salary, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, even though they typically worked more than 40 hours per week. Investigators also found the employer failed to pay minimum wage for all hours worked and failed to maintain required records, violating the FLSA.
The employer agreed to pay $732,976 for 31 affected workers.
