It’s one thing to mistakenly fail to pay workers for an hour or two of overtime they put in, but when employees put in almost 80 hours each week without any overtime, its bound to set off some red flags.
The Department of Labor recently took aim at a business it accused of massive pay violations. The Temp Team, Inc., allegedly failed to pay more than 250 employees overtime compensation even though they worked up 79 hours in a single work week.
The company also misclassified two employees as exempt and failed to maintain accurate records of employees’ hours worked and wages, according to the DOL’s investigation.
Because of the federal investigation, The Temp Team agreed to pay back $244,000 in overtime back wages and maintain accurate records and properly classify employees in the future.
