Caterer gets tip to remember
Here’s a cautionary tale to pass along to your AP and Payroll folks about the importance of double-checking for errors.
A company thought it tipped an Indiana cater $29.87. But the check the caterer received was actually for $29,387.
What did the caterer do with her tip? She bought a new car and paid off several bills. But she insists it was only after trying to call the company three times to let them know about the mistake.
Now, the employer is taking the caterer to court in an attempt to recover the money.
According to the caterer’s lawyer, the over-tipped woman was well within her rights to keep the money — because the cash was a gratuity, not wages.
