Maryland FAMLI Contribution Rate Set for 2027
Maryland payroll teams have a hard deadline: Jan. 1, 2027. That’s when contributions to the state’s new paid family and medical leave program begin – and the rate is now set.
In April, the state DOL reaffirmed that the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program contribution rate for 2027 will be 0.9% of covered wages, split evenly between employers and employees, with each contributing 0.45%.
Payroll contributions begin Jan. 1, 2027, with the first quarterly remittance (covering Jan. 1 – March 31, 2027) due April 30.
Small employers — those with fewer than 15 employees, counting both Maryland and out-of-state workers — owe only the employee 0.45%; the employer share of FAMLI contributions is waived.
Multistate employers with Maryland-based remote workers should confirm that payroll systems and employee handbooks are updated before Jan. 1, 2027.
