UPDATE: Feds extend remote I-9 checking yet again
Late last month the feds extended the deadline for remote I-9 checking until Aug. 31, 2021.
That gives your company an additional three months to keep reviewing this critical employment documentation remotely.
This is the ninth extension granted.
You’ll remember that back in March 2020, ICE cleared remote I-9 checking because so many employers had shifted to remote work.
That new policy: You can initially inspect Section 2 documents remotely – via video, fax or email – and “obtain, inspect, and retain copies of the documents, within three business days for purposes of completing Section 2” of the I-9.
Of course your company will need to inspect I-9 documentation again in person.
Will this be the final extension? Time will tell — we’ll keep you posted.
