What are Finance staffers really thinking?
Wouldn’t it be great if you could read minds?
Knowing what’s inside people’s heads could certainly help you manage them better!
Here are three things employees think (but rarely say out loud):
“Yes, I’m happy to have this job.”
Staffers are glad to have a job right now, especially in light of the 5.6% (cough, cough) unemployment rate.
But that doesn’t mean their efforts should be taken for granted.
Continue to ask what would contribute to their job satisfaction and try to provide it.
“I hate slackers.”
No crew wants to pull dead weight. Your staffers know who’s performing and who isn’t.
Keeping poor performers drains morale and makes people question the value of hard work.
“I want to respect you.”
It pays to explain your decisions to workers, instead of sending the underlying message, “I’m the boss and what I say goes.”
Explaining your reasons earns their respect – and improves performance.
