New Payroll Duty: Connecticut Employers Must Create Pay Code Guide
A new Connecticut law is about to add a documentation duty to your payroll to-do list.
Effective Oct. 1, 2026, Public Act 26-12 will require employers with 100 or more employees in the Constitution State to create a guide explaining their overtime and commonly used pay-differential codes, such as shift, on-call, hazard, call-back, holiday, weekend and geographic pay.
Where applicable, the guide must include at least 10 pay codes and be updated when a new overtime or pay-differential code is added.
It must also list a contact for disputes over hours or pay-differential calculations.
Employers with a website must post the guide in English, Spanish and other languages commonly spoken by employees.
At hire, employers must provide the guide’s web address or a written copy in English and the employee’s primary language. The web address must also appear on each record of hours provided to employees.
The act doesn’t require employers to create a website or new pay codes. A third-party payroll compliance provision also applies.
